After the original by Jean-Antoine Houdon (1741 - 1828).
The subject is Louise Brongniart, the daughter of the French architect Alexandre-Theodore Brongniart, who designed the Paris Bourse. She is shown with her hair tied up and looking to her right over one of her bare shoulders. Raised on a short waisted socle above a red marble squared base with an ormolu rosace to the front.
Houdon was much admired as he managed to depict his subjects, especially the younger ones, without over romanticising or sentimentalising them.
