This soldier made wool-work picture shows a fine chestnut horse being put through its paces at some former military outpost of the British Empire.
Beside a colonial church the British ensign flies atop what appears to be an adobe built fort, its entrance guarded by century boxes maned by soldiers from the 24th Regiment of Foot (2nd Warwickshire) It may be the West Indies, or India or possibly South Africa as these Red Jackets are famous for their heroics at Rorkes Drift.
Previously in the collection of the late Alistair Morris (1948 - 2016) former M.D. of Sotheby's Sussex.
