The Porringer is of a good large size and is decorated on the lower half of the main body with alternate lobes and flutes. The upper section displays a protruding lobed band and various bands of punched foliate motifs. The front of the main body is engraved with a contemporary cipher on an oval disc surrounded by a cartouche of scrolls, scale work and acanthus foliage. The Porringer has two reeded S scroll side handles. The side is very well marked and the base is engraved with the contemporary inscription "Mary Higgins September 1719". This piece was probably given to her as a christening gift in 1720 and the cipher on the front bears her initials.
Michael Boult was apprentice to the quality maker Thomas Parr and had workshops at the Blue Anchor and Star in Cheapside, when this piece was made.
