A George II Antique Silver Basket that was traditionally used for cakes but also could be used for fruit or bread. The basket is of shaped oval outline with applied and cast border of wheat-sheaves, acanthus leaves, fruiting vine tendrils and basket of fruit to each end, the flared sides pierced with scroll-work and anthemion motifs. The handle issues from leaf motifs and is applied with a scroll-edged vacant cartouche. The centre of the basket is engraved with the coat of arms and stands on four masked – capped and scroll supports and is exceptionally heavy.
