The chair retains much of its original gilding. The needlework is of the same period, but is associated to the piece. The chair was already covered with the needlework when in Countess Mona von Bismarck’s collection. The Countess was a famous Kentucky socialite of the 1930s described as the best dressed woman in the world, and the chair was in her home in Paris and then Monaco, where she lived in her later years.
