Look at what I found on the Online Galleries website!
There was some damage to the escutcheon on the top of this mirror which we had restored. A small area had to be re-carved to replace a missing detail, this area had to be re-gessoed, carved and was gilded to match the original gilding. As the mirror retains its original gilding we chose to leave it in its current condition. This means that there are some areas where the gilding has worn where the red bole is showing as well as some small areas of gilding loss. We feel that this is to the benefit of the object.
