A mid-18th century carved giltwood mirror in the rococo taste.

The rococo movement affected all the arts in the second quarter of the eighteenth century including painting, sculpture, architecture, interior design, literature, music, and theatre. It found its origins in France and grew as a reaction against the grandeur of the Baroque.

Concerning interior design from this period, forms became asymmetrical, even jocular and most certainly florid in their conception incorporating witty and playful themes. In painting and sculpture, the this playful style is epitomised by the works of Antoine Watteau and Fran├žois Boucher
