This table dates from ca. 1750 and has a wonderful deep and rich patina. The top has carved re-entrant corners and the front of the table can pull out to form a writing surface which is covered in a green baize which can slide backwards to reveal further compartments and secret drawers underneath. The whole table stands on square legs, the front two separating when opened and has a total of six castors. The front handle is very impressive and has a very imposing brass escutcheon. The table has been beautifully waxed.
Excellent. Due to its age and wood shrinkage the pull out writing section of the table sometimes needs a little coaxing but will open. I mention this for the sake of accuracy. There are some old ink stains on the table top surface (please see photos) which we have not bleached out as they are part of the table's history and because we wanted to retain the table's original patina..
