A George III Salon Suite
A fine George III parcel gilt and painted Salon Suite in the manner of Henry Holland comprising of sofa and two open arm chairs. The sofa with a padded back within a moulded square section frame and padded down swept arms above padded sides, the cushion seat above a panelled seat rail on fluted baluster legs. The chairs of similar form on fluted baluster legs and spool feet.
Commissioned for Bodelwyddan Castle Denbigshire, North Wales by Sir John Williams 1st Bt. (1761 – 1830) and thence by decent to his son.
Henry Holland (1745-1806) was one of the leading English Georgian architects of the period who designed interiors and furniture in both the French and the Greco-Roman styles and therefore a key figure in the introduction of late 18th century French Neo-classicism into English furniture design. After studying architecture he became the partner of Lancelot
