A very fine bureau from the last quarter of the 18th Century. Predominantly satinwood cross banded overall with mahogany and ebonised detail, a pair of concave fronted drawers above cylinder front with inlaid bow tied husk swag, opening to reveal various drawers & compartments, above a drawer and pair of oval panelled cupboard doors and raised on bracket feet.
The commode doors' ribbon banding and inlaid ornament reflects the Roman fashion popularized by Hepplewhite's Cabinet-maker & Upholsterers Guide 1788.
