Two George III Skewers, one unmarked and one maker's mark only, Sebastian and James Crespel, London, circa 1765. Each skewer is engraved with the same contemporary crest. The larger skewer is of exceptional length and was undoubtedly used in conjunction with a 'beef-machine' - a meat dish with two side brackets wth slots to accommodate skewers and support a large piece of beef. The Crespels supplied Thomas Heming and Wakelin and Parker [later Taylor]: both of the firms are recorded as having sold Beef machines.
The dimensions for the skewers are as follows:
The large skewer 317.3 gms; 54.20 cm long; 2.9 cm wide. The smaller skewer 207.3 gms; 37.6 cm long and 2.7 cm wide.
Good with the usual surface marking of skewers.
