Linke Index No: 1047
Linke Title: 'Table a ouvrage Louis XV … ceinture mosaique'
This fine side table has a shaped rectangular top with fine end-cut parquetry inlay framed by a gilt-bronze band, above a shaped frieze with a drawer centred by a finely cast gilt-bronze acanthus and scallop shell key escutcheon, raised on slender cabriole legs. The bronze mounts are of the very highest quality.
A notable feature of Linke's work, perhaps even more of a guarantee than a signature, is his use of the distinctive scallop-shell or coquille mount to the frieze drawer. Christopher Payne in his book- François Linke, 1855 - 1946, The Belle Époque of French Furniture, p. 362, pl. 400, illustrates the design for a comparable table to this model, index 1342, which also incorporates Linke's trademark coquille mount, designed for him by the celebrated sculptor Léon Messagé.
Linke index number 1047 is described in the price list as 'Table a ouvrage Louis XV…ceinture mosaique', it was offered with a landscape marquetry top, geometric inlay or with leather.
