xix, [1], 1152pp, [8]. Full contemporary calf, raised bands, spine in six panels, morocco title label to second panel, old private library label to third, bands bordered with gilt double rules. Split to head of spine repaired, small chip to head of spine with small amount of loss, front joint strip repaired, covers rubbed and lightly scored, with one or two small scrapes. Internally some light dust staining, occasional light browning, but generally clean. Maps and facsimiles browned and foxed, previous owners name to head of title. Small flaw to Kk catching text, but with no loss of sense. With seventeen colour plates (seven double page), two black and white plates, two folding maps, two facsimile letters and two pages of music (as called for). 'Famous account of the tour Hobhouse made with Byron in 1809 and 1810 is an important source for that period of the latter's life as well for the intellectual movement prior to the outbreak of the Greek insurrection' (Blackmer).
