A fine portrait of a Lady believed to be Elizabeth La Touche, Countess of Lanesborough, (1764-1788) with her right hand across her chest wearing a white dress and bandeau

Hone is known to have painted two other portraits of Elizabeth, one being smaller than the present example another with a pillar in the background

Elizabeth married Robert H. Butler, 3rd Earl of Lanesborough, in 1781. She was considered to be one of the beauties of her time. She died aged 24, in September 1788, of a fever. Hone finished the portrait in the following year
