Reverse painted mezzotint laid down on glass, the inscription lettered below the image with the title, 'George the Third of Great Britain, J. Zoffany Pinxit 1771. Robert Sayer Excudit. Richard Houston Fecit 1772. Done from the Original Picture in the Possession of his Majesty. Published as the Act directs 20th of May 1772, by Robert Sayer No. 53 Fleet Street London' A pair to the plate of Queen Charlotte. The moulded ebonised pear wood frame with gilt mounts is original.

Taken from the originals painted by John Zoffany (1733 – 1810) in 1771 as a commission for the Royal Family, King George wearing a general officer’s red coat and the Star of the Garter. The paintings are still in the Royal Collection at Buckingham Palace.
