A Large and Important Napoléon III Gilt-Bronze Figural Clock Garniture by Henri Picard. The eight-day movement striking the hours and half hours on a bell.

This large and impressive gilt-bronze clock garniture has a spherical clock surmounted by a cherub holding back drapery to reveal the clock face and flanked by a male and female figure depicting night and day above a base cast with scrolling foliage, 'C'-scrolls and rocaille.

The accompanying ten-light candelabra have a conforming base supporting a foliate stem flanked by cherub figures emblematic of the seasons and scrolling foliate candle arms and sconces.

The casting, gilding and chasing of the gilt-bronze is of the very highest quality a combination of the work of two of the period's most renowned craftsmen, the bronzier Henri Picard and the chaser Goujon.

Goujon

Goujon chased the bronze mounts on many of François Linke's most important works including the 1906 second version of the Commode 'Commode coquille: Coquetterie et Modestie', archive number 559. Goujon also chased Linke's famous Astronomical Clock, Index No. 1459.
