A rare mid-18th Century ormolu mounted Blue-john caryatic vase perfume burner by Matthew Boulton, having a later domed, foliated circular lid, with acorn finial, above a band of chased ormolu guilloche on a Blue-john body supported by two caryatids, with arching handles issuing from the shoulders mounted on a fluted stem with acanthus leaves over the spar, and terminating on laurel-cast square base set on a square marble base rising with a circular collar.
An identical vase, but with a central medallion and resting on a back marble base, is illustrated in “Matthew Boulton : Ormolu” by Nicholas Goodison, p. 326, no. 321, 322.
