A substantial silvered and gilded carriage clock which has an eight-day duration movement striking the hours and half-hours on a gong, with push button repeat of the last hour to the top, the gong block being stamped with the initials of the gong maker, F.D. The backplate is stamped with the trademark for Henri Jacot, a parrot on a perch with the initials H.J. either side, along with the serial number 3748, indicating a date of manufacture of circa 1880. The original silvered platform lever escapement is engraved in script 'fast/slow' and is numbered to its' underside '6254', which runs in sequence with this particular supplier of escapements to Jacot. The front-plate is stamped with the Jacot oval poincon giving the dates of various awards, the last shown here being that of the silver medal at the Paris Exposition of 1878.
The white enamel dial has black Roman numerals, Arabic outer numerals, diamond and dots to the minute aspect, typical Jacot inner ring and blued steel spade hands along with a matt silvered mask. The pillared case, slightly taller than the norm, is both gilded and silvered with substantial capitals and feet to the corner pillars and a decorative two-tone handle.
