Item Medium Description

Fruitwood

Item Description / Dealer Expertise

The rectangular back decorated with two horizontal rails. The gun-barrel turned, downswept arms terminating in blocks and ball turnings, and supported by gun-barrel turned uprights. The rectangular seat supported by gun-barrel turned legs and stetchers. The back legs straight. Probably French, third quarter of the 17th century.

This is a very pretty, small open armchair. It is unusual being made from fruitwood, and has a rich lustrous colour and patina. It is very usable and would benefit from a cushion.
