The shelf with undecorated but moulded tiered shelf, typical of Irish workmanship, the frieze centred with a tablet carved with a tazza shaped lidded urn with scrolled handles resting on an acanthus sockle again distinctively Irish, this is draped with linen swags. Flanked on either side by panels with flower paterae between pedestals with anthemion sprays enclosed by lyres a favourite Adam motif. The jambs in the form of pilasters with thin panelled fronts carved with Adam style arabesque decorations of globes, lambrequins and inverted flower husks; capped by the blockings with oval flower heads. The opening framed with antique green marble slips (probably a later replacement)
Excellent
The design heavily influenced by the illustrated volumes of the famous Adam brothers Works in Architecture.(vol 1. 1773, vol 2. 1779).
