This fine commode is of bombé form with a shaped brèche du Benou verte marble top above a pair of drawers inlaid sans traverse with scrolling foliage, exotic birds and monkeys. The sides are similarly decorated with climbing squirrels and the angles headed with trailing foliage. The commode is raised on splayed legs with scrolled sabots.
Linke’s régistre notes that he completed four commodes of this model, titled 'commode singe et écureuil' in 1938. The disctinctive and playful marquetry design repeated on each commode was by the marqueteur Imauville, at a cost of 2,000 francs (C. Payne, François Linke: The Belle Epoque of French Furniture, Woodbridge, 2003 p. 382).
