With Breche d’Alep marble top above a central frieze drawer inlaid with arches above two trellis veneered drawers decorated sans-traverses, fitted with ring dropped handles and ribbon-tied key hole escutcheons, the curved mirrored-back sides with three shelves, each surmounted by a pierced gallery, on stripe veneered circular tapering legs.

This commode relates to pieces supplied by the celebrated marchand-mercier Dominique Daguerre (d 1796) who retailed objets de luxe to the French court and, after the revolution, to the English nobility. A commode stamped Schey, with the same lunette inlaid frieze, identical corner and handle mounts and escutcheons and the same gilt-bronze panelling was sold by Renard & Sons, Bealieu sur Mer 2003.
Fidelis Schey received master in 1777.
