A spectacular Louis XVI period, circa 1780, white Carrara marble and ormolu clock signed Jean Charles Pochon, a renowned Parisian clockmaker. The obelisk shaped clock with a rectangular two tiered base is raised on ormolu topie supports. The marble clock is extremely ornate and richly chased with intertwining and scrolled laurel leaf ormolu mounts and beading throughout. Two columns with ormolu capitals on each side; above each is a platform with two urns and pierced ormolu chased railing. Above flanking the sides of the obelisk are lion head mounts with tasseled chains joining the platforms. Topped by a central regal ormolu eagle clutching a laurel branch symbolizing peace and an eternal flame below. All original gilt.
