The shaped rectangular top depicting an allegory of science, above a central frieze drawer to the front, the sides and back each centered by a rectangular panel inlaid with putti emblematic of the Arts and Sciences, on tapering legs terminating in foliate-cast sabots.

The origin of the design for the table is derived from the work of the renowned eighteenth century ébéniste de Roi, Jean-Henri Riesener, who was responsible for many important contributions to the formation of the Louis XVI style in France.
