A mahogany Regency bracket clock, the eight-day, five pillar, double fusee movement strikes the hours on a bell with pull repeat. The backplate has border engraving with further engraving to the elaborate pendulum. The eight-inch dial is signed by the maker ‘Steber, Dover’ and has blued steel spade hands. The case has decorative stringing to the front, a pagoda top, cast brass side handles, brass pillars and ball finials.

Inscribed on the rear of the dial:
John 1811
Born in the year 1795
Aged 16 years
James Brock bound apprentice to John Trethearn Watch maker
At Sydenham in the year 1805 who died in the year 1807

It is quite possible that James Brock was a member of the north Kent Brock family who included the well-known chronometer maker John Brock.
