A good mid 18th century French quarter-repeating ormolu cartel clock signed and numbered Herbault à Paris., No. 159
The assymetric case surmounted by the figure of a musician playing the hurdy-gurdy, over applied sprigs of nine flowerheads in full bloom, the signed enamel Roman & Arabic dial with good pierced and engraved gilt hands and regulation dial set above XII, the spring driven movement with tic-tac escapement and silk-suspended pendulum, circular plates united by four knopped pillars pinned through the signed and numbered backplate, the brass rack activating the two hammers on the bell above, by pulling the repeat cord guided by a pair of brass rollers below, the pendulum aperture glazed, the case punched with poinçon 'C' couronné, 23cm wide, 47cm high.
