Painted in enamel, in gold locket with chased foliate border
Zincke was one of the most important enamelists of the early 18th century. Apprenticed into the goldsmiths trade, he gained an appreciation of painting at an early age. He moved from Dresden to London in 1704 and became a pupil of Charles Boit. He obtained the patronage of the royal family and was leading enamelist during reigns of Queen Anne, George I and George II.
Although it has not been possible to identify the sitter the gold trimmed green lined pink cloak are signs of sumptuous clothing and he is likely to have been a wealthy nobleman.
