Lady Emily wears white dress trimmed with red bow and matching ribbon in her hair, set in a gilt-metal frame with pierced scrolling border, the reverse with oval aperture to reveal locks of plaited hair, the reverse twice engraved with her name; together with a Gentleman called Graham of Charterhuose in striking blue coat and red vest

Lady Emily was a socialite of the mid 19th century described by William Mackepeace Thackery as throwing large parties, that many people would liked to have attended. Her miniature is painted in the manner of Sir William Charles Ross
