A pair of William IV candelabra, London 1831, maker's mark of William Bateman.
The candelabra bases with cast and applied decoration of rocaille shells, acanthus, flower and vines. A celebration of the fruits of the earth. The cast and applied masks of Bacchus and Ariadne to the bases represent the four seasons. The three-light branches with long sweeping acanthus leaves and the capitals with flowers. The drip pans mirroring the bases with four cast masks and festoons of flowers and vines. The candelabra's elegant proportions are balanced with a wonderful flower and thistle finial to the centre.
