A Native American Plains Indian Lakota Sioux Pouch
Decorated with glass seed beads sewn onto hide lined with silk, the fringes with tin pine cone tassels and single long beaded tassel. A long blue strap attached to the top of the pouch

Size: 30 cm long – 11¾ ins long
A Single blue and red beaded star decorates the flap of this pouch and the Lakota Sioux had a particularly sophisticated knowledge of the stars. They acknowledged the existence of ‘significant relationships’ between the stars and certain land forms; the concept of mirroring’. ‘They are the same’ said Stanley Looking Horse ‘because what is on earth is in the stars, and what is in the stars is on earth’.
