These wonderful Victorian-era majolica pedestals are bold, vivacious choices for an interior. Standing at roughly one metre in height each (one pedestal is slightly taller than the other), these pedestals are joyously decorated all over their exteriors with images of natural abundance: fruits, flowers and leaves.

Floral and fruit festoons are depicted in the centre of each side of each column, and show grapes, corn, lemons and acorns on black ground. These sit inside a turquoise frame, with striped pilasters along each edge. There are acanthus leaf bands at the base and upper rim of each pedestal, and each one is topped by a square turquoise plinth.
Acquired in Stoke on Trent by an aristocratic family around 1900 and passed through the family for over 100 years
Other examples are illustrated Bergesen (V), 'Majolica British Continental and American Wares 1851-1915', 1990, col plt XIV and Atterbury (P) and M Batkin, 'The Dictionary of Minton', revised edition Woodbridge 1998, p158. The moulded festoons were also issued as 8 inch wall tile panels.
