This rare, medieval pair of Chinese vases was crafted from the same material as the famous Terracotta Army (209 - 210 BC). The clay-based earthenware has long been one of the most popular materials for sculpture, reliefs and vessels - in China as well as other parts of the world. Terracotta can be either glazed or unglazed, lending it a more sophisticated or rustic look depending upon the finish. This pair has a thick, iron-rich black glaze, used in Chinese pottery since the 10th century.
Condition: Old crack in each foot rim.
