A Pair of late 18th century porcelain vases, decorated with red, gold and turquoise clobbering.

The practice of clobber ware originated in Holland, but was taken up by the rest of Europe soon after. It refers to Chinese blue and white porcelain that was manufactured in China to which, upon arrival in Europe, colourful enamels were added by so called ‘China Burners’, highlighting the features already present.

Qing Dynasty, Qianlong Period (1735 - 1796)
