A well drawn and finely carved pair of early George III oval gilded wood mirrors. The mirror plates with a carved gadrooned edge and pierced foliage surrounded by carved trailing husks surmounted by a bold curled leaf cresting.
English, circa 1770
52.5” high (133cm)
26” wide ( 66cm)
A similar mirror is illustrated in “English Looking Glasses” by Geoffrey Wills, plate 109.
An almost identical mirror is illustrated in “The Mirror Book” by Herbert Schiffer, plate 297
The pair of mirrors come from a well documented design, are well proportioned and in great taste.
