A Pair of Large Louis XVI Style Patinated Bronze Urns and Covers. The bodies of the vases are finely cast with Bacchanalian scenes of putti restraining a goat who is attempting to eat bunches of grapes from a vine.

The goat was the sacrificial animal of Dionysus. They are present in most bacchanalian scenes usually being restrained by the horns or ridden by putti trying to protect the grape vines from being eaten. Goat skins in ancient times were used to hold wine which led to this association.
