A pair of late 19th century Japanese Export blue and white porcelain tea light holders of hexagonal form, the surfaces with floral painted decoration, the sides with pierced latticework panels.

The discovery of clay in areas outside Arita allowed for the Japanese trade to open up during the 19th century. This not only allowed for more kilns to be built, but also for a greater diversity of pieces to be manufactured.

This pair of tea light holders was made for the European market.
