Displayed in a pair of gilt frames, the paintings depict the Brighton pier before and after its famous destruction during a fierce storm on 4 December, 1896. Signed V.W. Cobbett 1906. William V.H. Cobbett of 15, Cardigan Road, Richmond, Surrey, landscape and architectural painter of the late 19th century, exhibited during the period 1887-1901 and his works were shown at several galleries: Dudley Gallery and New Dudley Gallery. 22. Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, Manchester Art Gallery and Royal Society of British Artists.
