Displayed in a pair of gilt frames, the paintings depict the Brighton pier before and after its famous destruction during a fierce storm on 4 December 1896. Signed: William V H Cobbett and dated 1906. William V.H. Cobbett of 15 Cardigan Road, Richmond, Surrey, landscape and architectural painter of the late 19th century, exhibited during the period 1887-1901 and his works were shown at several galleries: 22 at the Dudley Gallery and New Dudley Gallery, 2 at the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, 1 at the Manchester Art Gallery and 6 at the Royal Society of British Artists.
