A pair of George II oval Seal Boxes, maker's mark only, Robert Collier, of London, circa 1750, the lids engraved with the arms of the University of Oxford, and one box containing the original wax seal impression with silver thread embroidered blue ribbon.
These boxes are illustrated in both editions of 'Silver Boxes' by Eric Delieb.Delieb, however, mis-attributed the maker in both editions. [Second edition, see p.23, plate 32].
For details of Collier, see the Research pages of this website. The article on Collier contains a reference to these boxes, and to the mis-attribution of their maker.

The boxes are struck with a maker's mark to the centres of lids and bases.
Very good with minor bruising to the plain bases of the boxes. One box contains a silk ribbon, the other a wax seal, cracked, with silk ribbon underneath with silver thread.
