Both dishes decorated to the center with well painted shells. The broad borders beautifully gilded with acanthus leaves. In the early part of the 19th century Derby was well known for dishes with this type of broad gilded border worked around centers showing a variety of well painted themes typically scenes of rural England. A dish painted with shells was among the rarest and most prized.
