During the 19th Century this model of table, in the Louis XVI style, was made by Donald Ross of London. The firm held premises at 13 Denmark Square, Soho during the third quarter of the 19th Century and exhibited at the 1851 Great Exhibition at The Crystal Palace. For many years an identical table from the Jones Collection at the Victoria & Albert museum (museum number w.47-1911) was mistakenly thought to be from the 18th century and was attributed to Pierre Garnier. The attribution turned out to be incorrect, and the table was re-attributed to Donald Ross. Another example of this model is known to be stamped Gillow and the present pair bear the stamp for the renowned London maker/retailer Edwards & Roberts. For an almost identical example see Sotheby's London sale L11304, 6 July 2011, lot 146 (sold 39,650 pounds).
