A Perspective View, or Vue d'Optique, of Admiralty House, published in Augsburg circa 1775 under license from Robert Sayer, London.

Unexamined out of the circa 1900 frame but appearing in good condition with large margins, on laid paper and with original colour.

'Perspective Views' or 'Vues d'Optique' were a particular type of print that became very popular during the last quarter of the eighteenth century. Published throughout Europe they were a form of entertainment, being viewed through a zogroscope (see our item No.1746) producing the illusion of depth for the viewer. The strong simple lines and colours, together with the enhanced perspective common to the best of these views, make these prints both delightful and fascinating.
