Set in the original bold bracelet clasp frame housed in the original fishskin travelling case
The distinctive use of colour in this miniature particularly in the slate grey-blue is typical of Robertson’s hand. Whilst he did not sign his works, and many of his miniatures go unrecognised, the sculptural treatment of the nose, the bow shaped lips and sharp slightly raised eyebrows are all traits that are found in Robertson’s early miniatures. He spent most of his career in Dublin apart from one long prolonged period in London in 1785-92 and a shorter stay in 1806.
