The sitter wears a blue coat, the collar trimmed with white embroidery and silver buttons, he is depicted wearing spectacles (which is unusual in the field of portrait miniatures).

Dubasty (fl. 1810-1840) was a good miniaturist who painted finely in a regular "pointille". From 1836 to 1840 he held a studio in Palais-Royal (galerie de pierre, No. 148). He exhibited at the Salon de Paris from 1833 to 1837. Among his numerous clients Dubasty counted officers of the 1st Empire, as well as the Parisian bourgeois from the Restoration and Louis-Philippe periods.
