Wearing armour, white jabot secured in a bow, and gold edged red coloured sash full-bottomed blond wig and moustache
on vellum, set into later rectangular black wood frame

It has not been possible to identify the sitter in the portrait but knowing Gibson's affiliation with the Crown, it is likely that the sitter is a Royalist officer rather than a Parliamentarian.

The sitter's fashionable wig and small tied jabot would indicate a date of circa 1675-80 for this miniature. It is possible therefore, that the portrait was taken whilst Gibson was in the Hague between 1677-1688. He had gone to the Hague to accompany Mary, the daughter of the Duke of York, on her marriage to Prince William of Orange.
