Hazlehurst practised in principally in Liverpool where he exhibited at the Academy there, 1810-1812. He is said to have been a pupil of Reynolds. His early work is reminiscent of that of Charles Robertson, whilst his later works moves more toward that of John Barry. Although unsigned this miniature compares well with the 11 examples of Hazlehurst's work in the Victoria and Albert Musuem.
