Wearing a white dress with puff sleeves and ruff collar, blue ribbon waistband, a rope of pearls in her upswept brown hair, she wears a portrait miniature on a long strand of pearls around her neck
Set in the original gold frame, the reverse with seed pearl monogram JR on plaited hair, within gold mount and blue glass border

Charles originally lived with his brother, Walter, also a miniature painter,
in Dublin, but from 1785 to 1792 he was working in London. In 1790 and 1806 he exhibited at the Royal Academy. His miniatures, especially his female portraits are among the best produced by Irish artists.
