A young Lady perhaps of Oriental origin wearing a white dress and a gold loupe suspended from a gold chain around her neck, red curtain background. Signed on the reverse with the address George Street, Hanover Square, set in the original gold frame with locks of hair tied with gold wire on silk ground on the reverse

The address on the reverse was the last residence of Shelley, having hitherto lived in Soho, Henrietta Street and Covent Garden. The rather shaky signature on the reverse indicates that this was one of the last miniatures that Shelley produced before his death in November 1808, showing how competent he was in old age. The unpowdered hair piled high upon the head is also indicative of a date at the beginning of the 19th century when fashion dictated this mode
