Wearing a white dress with turquoise ribbon on her sleeve, the reverse with sepia memorial miniature of two angels flying amongst clouds beneath a cupid, the inscription In Memory of Samuel and Hannah Hardman. Whose short but amiable lives. Promised a Virtuous and Engaging Maturity

The memorial scene on the reverse depicts a young Lady with long flowing hair and a boy ascending into the clouds, which suggests that the sitter, Hannah Hardman possibly died along with her son at an early age. The miniature is therefore, a commemoration of a short life and it serves as a true memento for those left behind. Its existence today acts as a tiny slice of history in the Hardman family.
