| THOMSON |
Hugh Thomson (1860 - 1920), born in Ireland, first came to prominence with his series of drawing of 18th century ballads and stories in The English Illustrated Magazine in 1883. An instinctive artist with little formal training, his name was made with Coaching Days and Coaching Ways in 1888. Continuously in demand he worked with such classic writers as Jane Austen, Mrs Gaskell, Charles Reade and J M Barrie.
